💵 Currency & Payments

The official currency on the Dutch side of the island is the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG), while the Euro is commonly used on the French side. 


However, U.S. Dollars are widely accepted throughout the entire island and are often the preferred currency for visitors.

Credit and debit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants, beach bars, shops, and excursion providers. 


Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly accepted cards. It's still a good idea to carry some cash for taxis, small vendors, beach chair rentals, and local markets.



🚕 Getting Around

Taxis are readily available throughout the island, though fares are generally fixed rather than metered. 


Rental cars are a popular option and provide the most flexibility for exploring both the Dutch and French sides of the island. 


Driving is on the right-hand side of the road, similar to the United States.

Most resorts, restaurants, and cafés offer complimentary Wi-Fi. 


Travelers should check with their mobile carrier regarding international roaming plans before departure.

St. Maarten enjoys warm temperatures year-round, typically ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s. 


Lightweight clothing, swimsuits, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. 


If you plan to dine at upscale restaurants or visit casinos, consider packing a few resort-casual evening outfits.

St. Maarten operates on Atlantic Standard Time (AST) year-round and does not observe Daylight Saving Time.
